Mala Designs was honored to reimagine the adult pool and surrounding walkways at the iconic Mauna Kea Resort, a historic destination located along the breathtaking Kohala Coast of Hawaiʻi Island. The design vision focused on enhancing the guest experience while celebrating the resort's timeless elegance and connection to its natural surroundings.

Drawing inspiration from Mauna Kea Resort's signature orange color, the landscape incorporates vibrant orange-toned foliage throughout the pool environment. These bold accents are thoughtfully balanced with contrasting colors, textures, and forms to create visual interest and year-round beauty. Layered plantings soften the hardscape, guide circulation along the walkways, and frame key views of the ocean and surrounding landscape.

The redesigned pathways seamlessly connect guests to the adult pool while encouraging a relaxed and immersive experience. Carefully selected low-maintenance tropical plants provide durability in the coastal environment while enhancing the resort's distinctive sense of place. The result is a refined outdoor oasis that honors the legacy of Mauna Kea Resort while bringing renewed vibrancy, color, and sophistication to one of Hawaiʻi's most celebrated luxury destinations.
